We combine excellent German education with an open-minded, international environment where every child receives individual support and is encouraged to reach their full potential. We guide families from around the world throughout their educational journey – from Kindergarten through Primary and Secondary School to the German International Abitur (DIA) and other recognised German school-leaving qualifications. Enrolment is generally possible throughout the year, subject to availability and the fulfilment of our admission requirements. Requirements for admission

  • Admission Requirements of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission
  • Children, the parents of which with foreign passports (or respective Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan documents) have entered Shanghai through a legal channel for work and have received their work permit and residence permit in Shanghai, can apply directly to the school.
  • Children, which have been born abroad (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and have a valid foreign birth certificate and the parents of which are Chinese nationals with Chinese passports who live and work in Shanghai, can apply directly to the school.
  • Children, who possess a foreign greencard of a country in which they visited school (potentially also kindergarten) without interruption at least for the last two years and the parents of which are Chinese nationals with Chinese passport and foreign greencard who returned to Shanghai for living and working, require an official exemption approval from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. Parents must submit the application themselves. Our team will be happy to advise you throughout the process.
  • Kindergarten: Basic German skills are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Primary & Secondary School: Fluency in German is desirable. From Grade 4 onwards, a minimum of A1-level German is required.
  • The need for language support is assessed through a language proficiency assessment. Children with no or insufficient German skills are required to participate in our German as a Foreign Language (DaF) / German as a Second Language (DaZ) programme.

The Admissions Process at a Glance

Expression of Interest & Initial Questionnaire

If you are interested in a place for your child, we invite you to start by completing our short online questionnaire. This helps us gather key information and prepare for the next steps in the admissions process. You can also submit initial documents at this stage.

Initial Review & Follow-Up

Our Admissions Team will review your information and get back to you promptly. If you wish, we can arrange a personal consultation, including a “Look & See” visit to our campuses. Our educational team is involved from an early stage to answer any questions about your child’s development, learning and our educational approach.

Application

To complete the official application via our online platform, we require your full details and all personal documents needed for admission. These documents can also be submitted at the expression-of-interest stage.

Review & Feedback

Once we have received your application, we will carefully review all documents and contact you if we have any questions or need to clarify any outstanding details.

Offer of a Place

You will receive a provisional offer of a place. The place is confirmed once the processing or admission fee and the deposit have been received. You will then receive all the important information you need to prepare for your child’s start at Kindergarten or school.
