A Strong Partnership Since 2018
In summer 2018, German School Shanghai took an important step towards professionalising its extracurricular programme by signing a cooperation agreement with Borussia Dortmund, a club competing in Germany’s top-flight Bundesliga. Since the partnership began, an experienced BVB coach has supported our football programme on site. Our coaches also receive regular professional development to ensure that students train and develop in line with the playing and coaching philosophy of this leading German club.
For Football Enthusiasts from Preschool Onwards
Every child with a passion for football is welcome to join us from preschool onwards, regardless of their individual abilities or previous experience. Particularly talented players can also receive additional support through advanced training groups that complement regular team training. Students develop their skills and learn techniques they can put into practice straight away in Shanghai’s international school leagues. Training content and methods are tailored to the age of each group.
The Cornerstones of Our Football Training
Our training programme, delivered in partnership with the professional BVB Youth Development Partner, focuses on age-appropriate development, plenty of time on the ball and, above all, enjoyment of the game. Alongside football skills, we place great emphasis on sportsmanship, shared values and team spirit. Wearing the club kit in school league competitions also comes with a commitment to upholding Borussia Dortmund’s official playing rules.
Our teams regularly compete against other international schools in the SISAC (Shanghai International Schools Activities Conference). They also participate in the Y-LEAGUE (Youth League Shanghai), a year-round football league in which U7 to U17 teams compete against clubs and schools from across Shanghai on Saturdays.
Another highlight is our annual football camp. Each day has its own focus, giving players plenty of opportunities to develop key football skills such as shooting, passing and dribbling. The programme also covers topics such as nutrition and cognitive movement exercises.
