Primary School Years Full of Possibilities

Building Confidence. Bringing Talents to Light.

At our Primary School, we create a learning environment where every child can develop their individual talents. We nurture children’s curiosity and interest through a variety of teaching methods and place great importance on a well-rounded education. Through a broad range of lessons, projects and activities, we help children discover their strengths and build confidence. We provide a supportive environment that encourages them to think independently, take ownership of their learning, accept responsibility and treat others with respect. Our aim is to prepare students for the challenges of the future and help them grow into confident, responsible individuals.

Sparking Curiosity and a Lifelong Love of Learning

Small class sizes, a welcoming community and our full-day programme create the ideal environment for exploring new ideas together, growing with confidence and shaping the world around us. A variety of learning approaches fosters both a love of learning and the motivation to achieve, while supporting each child’s individual development. Our school-based curriculum follows the recommendations of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in Germany (KMK). In addition, our broad language programme with native-speaking teachers, along with diverse projects and learning experiences, places a strong emphasis on international-mindedness and intercultural understanding.

Language and Intercultural Diversity

Our Primary School welcomes children of different nationalities. From Year 1 onwards, we place great emphasis on intercultural understanding and language development. Through a wide range of language programmes tailored to different proficiency levels, children can learn or further develop their German, English and Chinese skills from the very beginning, supported by native-speaking teachers. German and Chinese culture, including their respective festivals and traditions, are also an integral part of school life.

Individual Support in Our Full-Day Programme

Children at the German School Shanghai’s Primary School follow a full-day programme that balances lessons with regular breaks and time to recharge. A wide range of additional activities enriches the school day, including supervised study sessions, learning and creative workshops, and extracurricular clubs covering creativity, sport, science and the arts.
